Spoiler Alert!

So You Think You Can Dance final results under the fold.  :)

The final show was two hours of awesome.

The top 20 were all back to perform, and they had the judges name their favorite routines from this season and then had the dancers do them again.  Tyce Diorio’s breast cancer dance by Melissa and Ade was one of the final performances, and even though I said I wasn’t going to, I wound up crying again. Mia Michael’s Addiction performed by Kayla and Kupono was also among the reprises.

And we won’t have to wait long for our next fix — season 6 starts in just a few weeks, premiering on Wednesday, September 2nd.  Yay!

And now, what you’ve all been waiting for … (if you want to watch it on your DVRs or Tivos and be surprised, don’t look under the fold!) …

Wednesday was the performance finale

Well, season five is all over now, except the results Thursday night. The fall season (season 6) starts up in September.

In this, the final performance show, everyone danced with everyone else, and they each had a solo. The best solo of the night was Jeanine’s.

The girls’ performance was better than the guys’, I think.

Evan and Jeanine’s Sonya Tayeh number was the best couples’ performance, IMHO, followed by Brandon and Jeanine’s pasadoble choreographed by Louis Von Amstel. Or possibly Brandon and Kayla’s Broadway number choreographed by Tyce Diorio.

from left: Kayla, Brandon, Jeanine & Evan

I think the top three are going to be Evan, Jeanine and Brandon. The top two will be Jeanine and Brandon, or Jeanine and Evan — if we go off the “whole package” it will be Jeanine and Evan because he’s clearly the crowd’s favorite. If we go off dancing it will be Jeanine and Brandon.  Although it IS possible it will be Evan and Brandon, too.  Less likely, I think, though.  I’m pretty confident Jeanine will make it into the top two.

When we were making phone calls to place our votes, it was almost freaking impossible to get through for Jeanine. Brandon was really hard to get through on as well, but not as difficult as Jeanine. For Kayla, I got thru on the first and second try with no busy signals at all. Evan was hard to get through on, but not nearly as hard as Brandon and nowhere close to as hard as Jeanine.  Missy and I voted a boatload of times for both Evan and Jeanine.  (Evan more than Jeanine simply because we could get through on him more often.)  We also voted about 8 or 10 times for Brandon and 2 times for Kayla.

Based on that very unscientific synopsis, I’m figuring Jeanine and Brandon for the top two, with Jeanine winning it all. Again, though, it could also be Jeanine and Evan in the top two and if Evan’s got that much pull to get into the top two, then I wouldn’t be surprised to see him win it.

I’m hoping Jeanine or Evan wins. Nothing against Brandon or Kayla, I’ll be happy no matter who wins, because I like all four of them. I just really like Evan a lot and Jeanine’s my second favorite of the four who are left.

And now it’s down to the top four

And next week we find out who the winner is! It will be one of the following:

sytycd---top-4

My first choice is Evan. I would *really* like to see him win. Really though, any of them could win and I’ll be happy. I like all four of them.

The second season is already underway, not sure when it starts airing, but they keep showing us previews and it’s looking good. Plus Evan’s brother is already through to Vegas!

Down to the top 6 now …

So, last week we lost Kupono and Randi. I was sad to see Randi go, and kind of surprised to see Kupono go, even though those were the two I predicted would leave.

This week, the show celebrated its 99th and 100th episodes. For some bizarre reason Ellen Degeneres was a guest judge during the performance show. I was pleasantly surprised, though, that she didn’t try to pretend to be some kind of a dance expert. On Thursday, Katie Holmes sang and (sort of) danced. The best performance of the night was Ade and Melissa’s dance about breast cancer which was choreographed by Tyce Diorio. I started crying about half way through it, cried through the judging, and then re-watched it (man, I love my DVR) and cried all over again. If it doesn’t get nominated for an Emmy something’s seriously wrong with the nominations panel. Mia Michael’s addiction routine (danced by Kayla & Kupono) should also be nominated.

And, this week we lost Jason and Janette. I know someone’s gotta go, but man I hated seeing Jason go. He had been doing SO well and his solo was outstanding. That leaves us with:

Ade, Brandon & Evan for the guys and Jeanine, Kayla & Melissa for the gals …

Personally, I’d like to see Evan win, but that’s a personality thing more than it is his dancing. He’s shown a tremendous amount of growth, however, so who knows? Really though, I like them all.

Here’s the top six:

Who will be going home on SYTYCD …

It was a really good show. I almost wish America wasn’t in charge yet! I hope they get it right, though I’m not sure what “right” will be. The guest judge this week is Debbie Allen. I *love* Debbie Allen.

This week, the couples all drew names to re-pair. I felt kind of bad for Evan and Kayla — the tallest girl and the shortest guy wound up together. Another odd couple was Brandon and Melissa, though they’re a little closer in height. Ade and Janette are way off too, but it’s not as odd when the guy’s the tall one. The other couples were Kupono and Randi along with Jason and Jeanine.

Best couple’s performance of the night was, hands down, the number by Jason and Jeanine.

Best solo of the night: Evan.

And, no offense to the guys, but between the guys’ routine and the girls’ routines, the girls’ Bollywood number was better than the guys’ African number.

If I had to guess, I’m sad to say I think it might be Randi (one of my favorites from early on) leaving on the girls’ side. For the guys … geez … Kupono? It’s REALLY hard to choose. Once again, I don’t want any of them to go!

SYTYCD: well, the top 10 have been chosen

The good news is that Nigel (it was his 60th birthday, incidentally) told both of the people being cut tonight that they are going on the tour anyhow. The bad news is two people still had to be cut.

I didn’t get around to blogging after watching the show last night, but it wouldn’t have mattered much. I had the bottom three couples right, but I didn’t have the two people that would be cut right. I didn’t have that right all the way up to the moment it happened.  The Judges had said Brandon & Janette would be the top couple of the night and they probably were.  Both of their dances were excellent and they probably got the most votes overall.  Despite that however, I believe the top performance of the night was Kayla & Kupono’s addiction routine, choreographed by Mia Michaels.  Both of them were absolutely outstanding in that — they really poured their hearts into it and it showed.

The bottom three: Caitlin & Jason, Jeanine & Phillip, Melissa & Ade. I don’t think it was that any of them did all that badly, it was just that everyone did so well. Caitlin & Jason I think kept flying under the radar. They weren’t bad, just not memorable. Jeanine & Phillip got screwed with a traditional Russian folk dance. Having seen such dances before, I happen to know they did a fine job. I’m sure America didn’t agree on the whole because it’s really kind of boring to watch, it’s kind of slow and plodding but that’s the nature of the dance.  Tyce at least recognized that they’d danced it well and made mention of it.  Melissa & Ade had never been in the bottom three before, and I think their only problem was they didn’t do anything that really jumped out and put them on top.

Going home, Caitlin (sadly expected) and Phillip (not at all expected). I was bummed over Caitlin leaving — she’s been among my favorite girls since the beginning, I liked Osuka, Caitlin & Randi — and I was especially bummed about Phillip, who has been one of my favorite guys (the others being Evan and Carlton Brandon).   I think Phillip has shown phenomenal growth, I really do. His jive last night was outstanding.  Unfortunately, I don’t think Phillip believed in himself and that showed in his solo. If he’d stepped it up a little more, I think he might have taken the guy’s spot away from Ade. I think Ade’s solo was a little bit manic and desperate.

Next week, the couples are split up and switched around. Also next week, the bottom dancers will be chosen solely by America with no more bailouts by the Judges. Not too much longer now!

Here’s the top ten:

2009-sytycd--top10

They showed some previews of the upcoming summer season — I’m already anxious to see it!

Down to six couples now

Ultimately, I didn’t agree with two of the three couples who were in the bottom three — I disagreed with America, not the Judges, because the Judges were also shocked.  I did agree with the third couple being there, and felt they deserved to be there.  I also felt they deserved to be the ones going home.  The Judges agreed with my assessment (even if they didn’t know as much!), and tonite we said goodbye to Karla and Vitolio.

Amazingly, Phillip & Jeanine were in the bottom three, as were Kayla & Kupono.  Personally, I would have put both couples in the top half.  The top six couples therefore, are:

And next week we find out who the top ten are!

sytycd--top12

I don’t want to choose which two are going home!

I want them all to stay!

For what I believe was the first time ever, there was not one single routine I did not like last night.  We’re down to seven couples and obviously that means nearly half of them are going to be in the bottom three, but geez, I wouldn’t want to be the one judging the dance offs.

Bottom three … crimoney … I guess probably Vitolio & Karla, Caitlin & Jason and Randi & Evan.  Only because the other four couples were that much better? ::sigh::

Tonight’s results are going to suck.  :P

Results & Updates all in one!

Missy and I watched the performance and cut shows back to back because we had to know who would be cut.  Toni Basil was the guest judge this week.

Although terribly disappointed, I wasn’t totally surprised by either who left, and I’m not going to bother recapping the show since it’s kind of pointless now.

The two who were cut were Asuka and Jonathan, which leaves Vitolio and Karla as a new couple.

I really, really liked Asuka but she wasn’t growing at all and out of the three girls who were up for elimination, she really was the least impressive on her solo.  If you stacked last night’s solo against any other solo she’s done, it’s all the same.  I hate seeing her go, though, especially because she and Vitolio seemed to FINALLY be clicking.  I was actually surprised they were in the bottom three, as I’d thought they did a decent enough job.

Jonathan was, unfortunately, the worst of the three guys who got nailed into the bottom three.   Like Asuka, I’m sorry to see him go, but out of the six up for elimination, I’d have to agree with the Judges’ decision.

Here’s the top fourteen:
